Brenda Mary Kunz
September 24, 1955 – July 15, 2018

The passing of Brenda Mary (nee Kolbeck) Kunz of Humboldt, SK, occurred on Sunday, July 15th, 2018, at Humboldt District Hospital with her family by her side. Brenda was born to Michael and Mary (nee Pomedli) Kolbeck in Humboldt on September 24, 1955, and grew up on the Kolbeck family farm west of Lake Lenore. After high school, she moved to Saskatoon, SK, where she earned a diploma in nursing and married the love of her life, Gary Kunz. The couple lived in Ottawa, ON, and then moved to Atikokan, ON, where Brenda worked as a registered nurse. They later moved to Humboldt where Brenda continued her nursing career and farmed with Gary. She loved literature and operated two bookstores in Humboldt, The Bookcase and Buy the Book. Brenda attended the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, earning a BA and MA in English. Her master's thesis, An Orgasm and an Atom, explores the role of play and performance in the work of Canadian author Margaret Sweatman. Brenda loved travelling with family and friends, and spending time at their cabin at McPhee Lake. Nothing gave Brenda more joy than spending time with her four grandchildren. She was the most amazing grandmother. Brenda is survived by her husband Gary Kunz; their three children: Sarah Kunz (Joe Sitch), Megan Haeusler (Dustin Haeusler), and Michael Kunz (Whitney Lilly); four grandchildren: Ethan Sitch, Hannah Sitch, Logan Haeusler, and Hudson Haeusler; her mother, Mary (nee Pomedli) Kolbeck; and by her two brothers: Kelvin Kolbeck, and Brent Kolbeck. She was predeceased by her father, Michael Kolbeck; brothers-in-law: Harvey Kunz and Richard Kunz; sister-in-law, Nettie Kolbeck; and by her parents-in-law, Norbert and Celestine (nee Ehalt) Kunz. A Celebration of Brenda’s Life was held at the Bella Vista Inn (Winston-Salem Room) in Humboldt on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to a charity of your choice.
