Beverly Taphorn
December 12, 1951 – January 29, 2016

The death of Beverly “Bev” Taphorn of Winnipeg, MB, (and formerly of LeRoy, SK), occurred at her residence on Friday, January 29, 2016, after a 16-year battle with cancer.  She was 64 years of age.  Bev, the middle child in a family of five, was born on Wednesday, December 12, 1951, to Bill and Alice (nee Fouhse) Taphorn at LeRoy.  She was raised on the family farm northwest of LeRoy, and it was there she learned the importance of hard work, respect, love of life and how to have fun.  Bev took grades 1 and 2 at  Newnham School and after it closed, continued her formal education at LeRoy School.  After graduating from Grade 12, she worked for a brief time in Humboldt, then moved to Saskatoon where she was employed at Federated Co-op.  In 1974, Bev moved to Winnipeg, where she continued to reside until her passing.  She worked for various companies there, and was employed at Fort Gary Industries for a number of years.  Always a dedicated worker, Bev made many lasting friends during those years.  Her positive attitude, out-going personality, thoughtfulness, and genuine caring and compassion endeared her to all.  The house she bought on Ashburn Street became a sanctuary, not only to family and friends, but to mere acquaintances who knew they could go there for a shoulder to lean on.  Many times Bev would help someone who took advantage of her kindness, but that did not deter her from assisting the next person who asked for help.  Bev had a great love of life - which she especially showed these past few years.  She had been struggling with cancer for over 16 years.  As overwhelming as that was, she still put others first and did not give up.  Faith in her God and in her church were an important part of Bev's life.  That faith and determination kept her going and was a source of inspiration as she spent many hours sharing her cancer journey with others, giving them hope for their own recovery.  In 2013, Bev was awarded the Manitoba Cancer Volunteer of the Year, an award that she was humbly proud of.  Of utmost important to her was her family, whom she cherished deeply, and  had a special place in her heart for each and every one. Bev  will  be  lovingly  remembered  and  sadly  missed  by  her  son,  Chris  (Tanya) Taphorn  of  Winnipeg,  MB,  and  their daughters Shanti and Alyssa; one sister, Lorraine  (Stewart)  Hawke  of  Calgary,  AB;  two brothers:   Glenn  (Suzanne) Taphorn of St. Gregor, SK, and Eldon (Trudy) Taphorn of Busby, AB; sister-in-law, Linda Taphorn of LeRoy, SK; special friend Doug Gillingham of Winnipeg, MB; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  She was predeceased by her father,  William  “Bill”  Taphorn  (January  1982);  mother  Alice  (nee Fouhse) Taphorn (October 2002); and by one brother, Lloyd Taphorn (October 2014).  A celebration of Bev’s life will be held at Holy Rosary R.C. Church, LeRoy, on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., led by Glenn Taphorn and organist Suzanne Taphorn.  Interment will follow at Holy Rosary R.C. Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be directed to the Holy Rosary R.C. Cemetery Fund.
