Bertha Cash
July 20, 1933 - December 14, 2018

The sudden and unexpected death of Bertha Marie (nee Weisgerber) Cash, 85 years of Saskatoon, formerly of Humboldt, occurred on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon. Bertha was born July 20, 1933 to Ralph and Mathilda (nee McGilliky) Weisgerber on the farm in the Torquay district to a family of nine, seven girls and two boys. When Bertha was a baby, the family moved to a farm near LeRoy, SK. At six weeks old, she developed Scarlet Fever and her mother nursed her back to health. She was kept in a dark room and fed sugar water on a spoon. Bertha started school at Natika, which was approximately two blocks from the farm, she completed her grade 8 there as that was the highest grade she could obtain. She went on to LeRoy to obtain her high school diploma. At 16, her sister Marg and herself went to Govan and worked as waitresses’ in a café. From there they went to Saskatoon, Edmonton, and then back to Tisdale. There she managed a dress shop; Belle Style Shop. When the dress shop sold, she moved to Wynyard and managed a ladies department store. Bertha then moved to McKague in 1957 to manage her mom and dad’s café. In 1958, she married Ray Ilg and they were blessed with four children; Gerald Kevin, Deborah Lee, Dwayne Raymond, and Kathleen Shirley. In 1982, she remarried to Jack Cash. Jack passed away in 2004. She especially loved her children, grandchildren and family visits, whom were so special in her life. She was so happy to come so far and overcome so many obstacles that crossed her path on her journey through life. Unfortunately, in 2014 she had to face another obstacle, the premature death of her son Dwayne. In 2015, she moved to her condo on 10th Street, which she enjoyed very much. She held many precious moments close to her heart, and said that God had been good to her. Bertha enjoyed socializing, dancing, playing cards, watching her children and grandchildren in sports, and sharing special moments with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bertha was a fun loving people person who loved to have a good time, good laugh, and just live life to the fullest in her red shoes.

Bertha will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her three children, four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren: Gerry (Leslie) Ilg of Saskatoon and family Raelynn (Scott) Winkel and children Alex and Bennett all of Calgary, and Ryan (Sarah Cassidy) Ilg of Saskatoon; Debbie (John) Schreiner of Humboldt and family Kurt (Amy) Schreiner and children Jonah, Presley, Sebastian, and Seger all of LeRoy, and Kyle (Megan) Schreiner and children Ayla, Easton, and Rolston all of Esterhazy; and Kathy (Allan) Boser of Red Cliff, AB; three sisters: Irene Slade of Tisdale, Frances Gasmo of Saskatoon, and Shirley (Lyle) McKee of Lanigan; one brother Raymond (Charlene) Weisgerber of Saskatoon; sister-in-law Arlene Weisgerber of Saskatoon; members of the Ilg and Cash families; numerous nieces and nephews.
