Barbara Nordick
January 28, 1920 – August 8, 2016

The death of Barbara (nee Lieman) Nordick of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson SK (and formerly of Englefeld, SK) occurred at her residence on Monday, August 8, 2016.  She was 96 years of age. Barbara was born on January 28, 1920, to Anton and Rosa Henger, at  Santana, Romania.  She immigrated to Canada in July of 1924 along with her parents and baby sister, Kathleen.  The family traveled by train to the Quill Lake area of Saskatchewan where her father worked on a local farm until his death from pneumonia in September. Her widowed mother, Rosa, found domestic work in the Englefeld area and in November of that same year married Henry Lieman of Englefeld who became the step-father to Barbara and her sister.  Barbara received her education at the Greenside School and completed her grade eight.  She helped with the farm work until her marriage to August J Nordick on October 25, 1938.  Barbara and her husband raised six children while farming in the Englefeld district.  She worked with the farm animals, and the farm plants while caring for the needs of her family.  In 1974 she and her husband retired to a new home in Englefeld.  Barbara loved to garden.  Weeds were her enemy and were seldom seen anywhere near her garden.  The results were sufficient to gain a featured article in the Canadian Gardening magazine.  Family and friends were welcomed in her home.  She was a really good cook and always offered drink and food to anyone who would visit.  Barbara was active in her church, the CWL and the Seniors Club in Englefeld until failing health forced her, in 2008, to move to the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge.  There she continued to be active, working with the plants, and participating in the activities with “her girls” as she often referred to the staff who cared for her so well.  This spring she had a fall which resulted in a fractured hip.  Although her hip mended, and in spite of excellent care, her health failed and she passed away on August 8, 2016.    Barbara will be lovingly remembered  and sadly missed by her six children, 13 grandchildren , 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren: Leonard (Martha) Nordick of  Englefeld and family, Deborah (Danny) Androsoff and daughter Alysia, Joyce (Leo) Jeanneau and daughters: Katie (Dan) Sapieha and their daughters: Lyla and Haylee, and  Maria and Erica,  Jeffrey  (Brigitte) Nordick and sons: Nicolas, Kyle and Kalen;  David Nordick of Humboldt and family,  Helen  Nordick (Derek Bereza)  and children, Judy Basaraba and daughters Ashley and Krystal, and   son Tyler; Roselyn  Szautner of Rosthern and her family, Rhonda  (Randy) Scott, Vicki Kirby and daughter Julien, Darrol Szautner; Elaine Nordick (Jim) of Naicam;  Evelyn (Larry)  Rath of Sherwood Park, AB, and family,  Randine (Andrew) Wilson, Sheldon  (Mariana) Rath and son Chance, and daughter Juliana, Jaye ( Stacey ) Rath and daughter Piper; Randal (Jayne) Nordick of Watson, and family  Ryan (Diane) Nordick and son Tristan, and daughters:  Darian  and Joslyn, and Robert (Kaila) Nordick and son Bentley.
