William Allan McLean
November 8, 1931 – February 27, 2016

The death of Mr. William “Allan” McLean of Lanigan, SK, occurred at Golden Acres Nursing Home, Wynyard, on Saturday, April 23, 2016.  He was 85 years of age.  Allan was born on Tuesday, March 31, 1931, to William and Mayme (nee Ehlert) McLean at Weyburn, SK.  In 1934, the family moved to Wimmer, SK, and two years later to the Watson district.  Another move was made to Barrie, ON, in 1941, but they returned to Watson to farm.  Allan attended Iron Spring School.  Following his education, he worked on his father’s farm and at various other jobs before purchasing his own land.  As well, Allan was employed by the Dept. of Highways in Watson until being transferred to Lanigan.  He married Lena Halayko in 1971 and became a step-father to her two children, Bonnie and Rick.  Allan retired in 1992.  Allan will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by step-daughter Bonnie Jackson and her children, Tyler Jackson and Nathan Jackson; step-son Ricky Tarasoff and his daughter Amy; two brothers:  Elgin (Violet) McLean, and Ronald McLean; sister-in-law, Anne McLean; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lena (nee Halayko) McLean (February 27, 2016); parents, William and Mayme (nee Ehlert) McLean; brother, Gordon McLean; and by sister-in-law, Viola McLean.  The Prayer Service for Allan was held at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Lanigan, on Thursday, April 28, 2016,  at 7:30 p.m., led by Don Courchene   and organist William Dodd.  Others taking part were: Gabe Wolfe, scripture reader; Paul Mamer, intentions; and Nathan Jackson, eulogist.  The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Mary’s R.C. Church on Friday, April 29, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Cosmas Epifano, OSB.  Others taking part were:  Peter Senga, cross bearer; Francis Washkowsky and Don Courchene, scripture readers; Gabe Wolfe intentions; Ron and Rita Schmidt, gift bearers; Nathan Jackson, urn bearer; John and Dorothy Zimmer, memorial table attendants.  Music ministry was provided by director Othello Ubalde, organist William Dodd, and the St. Mary’s Parish Choir.  An honor guard was formed by members of the Abbot Severin Gertken 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.   Interment will take place at a later date.  Memorial donations may be directed to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation.
