Albert Kienlen

July 21, 1941 – December 16, 2017

The death of Albert Garnet Kienlen (affectionately known as “Bert”) of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK on December 16, 2017, with his cousin Doreen Grace by his side. He was 76 years of age. Bert grew up in the Burr – Muenster area and attended Banner School, taught by his Aunt Agnes Kienlen. He started farming at a very early age, and that was Bert’s life-long career, he was proud of his cattle herd and was also involved in some construction work during that time.  Besides farming, over the years he worked as a Cat operator at the Lanigan and Colonsay Potash mines. He retired and moved into Humboldt, SK in 2006. Bert enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening on the farm, he grew a huge vegetable garden from seed including every kind of herb and generously gave most of that produce away.  He also had a flower garden and especially grew gladiolas because that was his mom’s favourite flower.  Bert was an avid outdoorsman. His faith was very important to him and he attended church regularly.  Albert will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed, especially by his cousins Dolores, Doreen, Elaine and Jerry  who grew up in the same yard as Albert, his mother, uncle and grandparents, as well as numerous other cousins and their families.  Albert was predeceased by his mother, Evelyn Kienlen; cousin Irene Doepker; and by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  A Public Visitation was held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.  A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, December 22, 2017 at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church Humboldt, SK at 10:00 a.m., presided by Fr. Michael Yaremko.  Others taking part were: Ashley Perry, crossbearer; Ryan Grace and Erica Doepker, scripture readers; Doreen Grace, intentions; Doreen and Rene Grace, giftbearers; Robert and Ruth Kienlen, memorial table attendants; Loretta Schugmann as funeral director with organist Dolores Hinz and members of St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir, music ministry.  Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Bert’s life.”  Active pallbearers were Rene Grace, Ryan Grace, Nolan Grace, Cory Barnes, Gordon Barnes and Dennis Siegel. Interment followed at St. Scholastica Roman Catholic Cemetery, Burr District, SK.  Memorial Donations may be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation General Equipment Fund or the St. Scholastica Roman Catholic Cemetery Fund.
