Another shootout, another win: Broncos keep rolling vs Klippers
The Humboldt Broncos began the month of November the same way they ended the month of October, earning a shootout win, this time it was against the Kindersley Klippers, as the Broncos beat the Klippers 3-2 on Saturday night. It was a quick start for the Broncos, #42 Jeter Korte scored 42 seconds into the game to give the green and gold the early advantage. The lead was short-lived, as 1:17 later, Will Christian answered back for the Kippers to tie the game. Humboldt had a golden opportunity to take the lead with a full two-minute 5-on-3 power play, but couldn't capitalize. Shortly afterwards, Kindersley scored nine seconds into their first power play as Russ Demo gave the Klippers their first lead of the game. Following three goals in the opening ten minutes, the goaltenders on both sides, Humboldt’s Charlie Tritt and Kindersley’s Brett O’Halloran kept the score intact. O’Halloran received some help from the post, with both Jacob Strizzi and Tyce Penrod finding iron on separate occasions. Midway through the final seconds of a Broncos extra-man advantage, Connor Miller faked a drop pass and instead fired a shot into the back of the net to tie the game. Overtime settled nothing and for the second straight game between the Broncos and Klippers, the extra point was decided in a shootout. It lasted until round six, when Owen Chapman’s backhand got past O’Halloran to complete the Broncos comeback, winning 3-2 in the shootout. Tritt made 26 saves to earn the win. The Broncos were 1 for 5 on the power play, while the Klippers were also 1 for 5 on the extra man advantage. With the win, Humboldt increased their lead over Kindersley to two points for top spot in the SJHL and Nutrien Division standings. It will be a quick turnaround for both squads, on Sunday, the Broncos will host the Klippers at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
