Grey Cup returning to Saskatchewan in 2027
Canadian football's biggest party is coming back to Saskatchewan. CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston announced Monday at Mosaic Stadium that the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the province will host the 114th Grey Cup in 2027. The game will mark the second time in five years the Roughriders and Saskatchewan have hosted the event, following what was overwhelmingly considered to be a success in 2022. "There is something truly special about football in Saskatchewan,” Johnston said. “It's more than a game; it's a way of life. From the wheat fields to the stadium stands, the passion of Rider Nation runs deep.” Johnston praised the bid put together by the Roughriders organization, noting it included an outstanding level of support from the provincial government, the City of Regina, and tourism operators. Premier Scott Moe, who was present for the announcement, called it an opportunity to highlight the province's community pride and renowned hospitality. "We are thrilled to have the privilege to host the Grey Cup this time in 2027," Moe said. He noted the spirit for the team extends from corner to corner across this province. While the game will be at Mosaic Stadium, Roughriders President and CEO Craig Reynolds confirmed the event will again be a province-wide celebration. "Saskatoon Mayor Cynthia Block was unable to join us today, but she wanted to share her excitement," Reynolds said. "She wants everyone to know that Saskatoon is ready to do its part, and we are looking forward to hosting events in Saskatoon again in 2027, just like we did in 2022". Reynolds also revealed a major change for the 2027 festival. "As a little sneak preview, we're very excited to tell you that for the first time, the entire festival will take place in the warmth of the indoors here at the Real District," Reynolds said. "Everyone can hang up their winter jackets and stay all day". The 2027 Grey Cup will be the fifth hosted by the province. The Grey Cup was previously hosted here in 2022, 2013, 2003, and 1995.
