JPCH Radiothon wraps up with powerful support for Saskatchewan kids
The phones have finally quieted after two days of heartfelt giving, as the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Radiothon wrapped up its annual broadcast, raising a grand total of $1,119,195.00 for specialized children’s care in Saskatchewan. Hosted live across the province, the two-day event featured powerful stories from patients, families and medical staff, showing how community donations continue to transform care at Saskatchewan’s only dedicated children’s hospital. Troy Davies, CEO of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, said the response from across the province was overwhelming. “It’s amazing to see the kids that have come in, the families that come in, and the donations that continue to come,” said Davies. “The phones have been ringing off the hook since we started, and the impact this will have for otolaryngology and otology is phenomenal.” Davies said seeing how deeply the hospital’s staff care for their work was inspiring. "Being the provincial hospital for kids and having the opportunity to make intensivists feel emotional it’s powerful,” he said. “We continue to grow research and innovation, and we have to keep funding those opportunities. People are the answer, and that’s why Saskatchewan is just a different breed of people.” Davies also highlighted the generosity of the Saskatchewan Elks and the David and Karen Host Family Foundation, who provided a $200,000 matching donation to double community contributions. “Having the Host Family Foundation as our matching partner is a game changer,” he said. “Any small donation $20 or $5,000 instantly doubled. We can’t do that without them.” While the Radiothon has come to a close, donations can still be made year-round through the foundation’s website, or by joining initiatives such as the Sunshine Club and the upcoming Making Spirits Bright holiday campaign. “The last two days really showed how this province steps up for kids,” Davies added. “For me, being part of this for the first time and seeing that kind of passion and support it’s something I’ll never forget.”
