Bench warrant issued for local woman facing fraud, theft, and forgery charges
A local woman is facing multiple charges following investigations by the Humboldt RCMP earlier this year, and a bench warrant has now been issued for her arrest. Georgina Colleen Cornelius was scheduled to appear in court on charges stemming from two separate incidents beginning in May 2025. When she failed to attend court, a bench warrant was issued on Monday, September 15. In the first case, police launched an investigation after a business reported fraudulent activity. As a result, Cornelius was charged with one count of fraud under Section 380(1) of the Criminal Code, one count of theft under $5,000 under Section 334(b), and one count of uttering a forged document under Section 368(1)(b). In a second incident, an individual reported being the victim of fraud. Following the investigation, Cornelius was charged with one additional count of fraud under Section 380(1) of the Criminal Code. Understanding the Charges Fraud (Section 380(1)): Involves intentionally deceiving another person or business to cause a loss or risk of loss. Fraud over $5,000 carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison, while fraud under $5,000 can result in up to two years’ imprisonment if prosecuted summarily. Theft under $5,000 (Section 334(b)): Occurs when someone takes property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it. This hybrid offence carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment. Uttering a Forged Document (Section 368(1)(b)): Involves knowingly using or presenting a falsified document as genuine. This hybrid offence can result in a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison if prosecuted by indictment. Cornelius remains subject to the outstanding warrant as court proceedings continue.
