The -50 temperatures seem to be a thing of the past, at least for now.

Humboldt and the surrounding area experienced a below-average cold spell throughout the past 10 days with temperatures consistently below -40 degrees and sometimes reaching -50 with the windchill. It seems we have survived the frigid forecasts and will be graced with a warm winter wonderland for the next week.

"The mild air is finally spilling into Saskatchewan. The big ridge of arctic air has finally moved off and the whole jet stream has shifted, so we're going to get into the mild side of the jet stream now and see some warmer temperatures this week," said Terri Lang, meteorologist with Environment Canada.

Alberta recently experienced a 20-degree jump in temperatures over the course of an hour due to a chinook. Although Saskatchewan won't experience that drastic and sudden of a temperature change, the weekly forecast does project to be above seasonal.

"Well we won't see it jump 20 degrees, but certainly, we are going to see temperatures climb to above seasonal for the week here in Saskatchewan."

According to Lang, there appears to be no return in the arctic air mass for roughly the next 10 days, so say goodbye to the extreme cold warnings and hello to a week full of warm temperatures.
