Communities of Humboldt and surrounding areas join with the province, country and the international community to mark the 6th anniversary of the Humboldt Broncos Bus Tragedy.

At the March meeting of City Council, Mayor Michael Behiel signed a pair of proclamations honouring the legacy of the 2017-2018 Humboldt Broncos.

The proclamations acknowledged the tragic bus accident that resulted in the heartbreaking loss of 16 people and the everlasting impact on 13 survivors, families and the community.

Behiel proclaimed Saturday, April 6, 2024, as “2017-2018” Humboldt Broncos Day”, with his encouragement for all citizens to remember and honour those affected by the tragedy of April 6, 2018.

The proclamation expressed the outpouring of love felt from those around the world who rallied around the team.

“Whereas, thousands from all over the globe came forward to support our families, our community and each other in unimaginable ways;

And whereas, each of those 29 involved in the tragedy have inspired legacies that will be cherished and will always have a place in our hearts.”

 A retrospective video will be posted to the City's website for viewing, and has been a tradition in Humboldt, the bells of St. Augustine Parish will ring out at approximately 4:50 pm.

We are all invited to pause our activities to honour those who were lost or impacted by the tragedy in refleciton.

The mayor also issued a proclamation surrounding Green Shirt Day on April 7. Humboldt Bronco Logan Boulet succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash on that day. His selfless act of donating his organs triggered Green Shirt Day and the movement that came to be known as the “Logan Boulet Effect.” Over 100,000 Canadians signed up to be organ donors in the wake of Logan’s generous act.

The proclamation is in support of “raising awareness of the importance of organ donation and to encourage citizens to “have the kitchen table talk” with their families and to wear green on this day to show your support.”
