The frigid winter conditions you loathe each year are expected to stick around for this week.

Wind chill values will be reaching -40 over the coming days. These temperatures could result in multiple extreme cold warnings in the area.

"We do have a big ridge of high pressure that's sort of parked over most of western Canada and it looks like the cold weather will be here for most of the week," said Terri Lang, meteorologist with Environment Canada.

To prepare for the cold temperatures, be sure to dress appropriately, have an emergency kit in your vehicle, and check the Highway Hotline before hitting the road. If these steps aren't taken, it could end badly.

"These conditions move us into the dangerous category where frostbite and hypothermia can set in if you are not ready for the cold," stated Lang.

The beginning of next week could see a recurrence of the cold weather. However, the weather should be back to seasonal temperatures next week according to Environment Canada.
