Laura Walker and Humboldt area’s Kirk Muyres have played in the final in over half of their events this season. They believe with this experience they’ve been able to learn what it is like to be in high pressure situations that the national championship will surely bring. They can also rely on our previous national championship experience (Gold in 2018, Bronze in 2019 and 4th place in 2021) to give themselves a leg up on the competition.

The past two months have been exciting for the team as fans got to watch Laura compete at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts with Team Lawes. They had a great showing and Laura earned the well deserved all-star award at her position

The duo also was able to spend time travelling Saskatchewan visiting communities on the Corr Grain Community Rocks Junior Curling Tour. The events were very well attended and the pair says, “It’s super exciting and it is always very neat to visit small town rinks getting youth excited about our great game.”

Leading up to the national championship, Walker and Muyres participated in a final training camp in Edmonton. They’re in Sudbury this week to face the best in the country with critical points at stake toward the Olympic Trials.

“If we’re lucky enough to get through that, then we’ll be off to Korea for the World Championship in April,” said Muyres in a previous interview. “But there’s going to be 31 other teams at the Nationals that have something to say about that.”
