The streets of Humboldt were lit up and abuzz as the Christmas shopping season officially kicked off on Thursday night with Moonlight Madness. Sponsored by the Humboldt Downtown Business Improvement District, the event drew a large crowd of revelers to enjoy the evening's entertainment and all the shopping bargains. Stores stayed open late to accommodate the throngs of downtown browsers and buyers.

The entertainment opened with Yanna Yudina-Jeewon and her wonderful renditions of Christmas classics and contemporary offerings. Her vocal stylings are always a fan favorite at downtown events, and listeners enjoyed the late Christmas mood. A bit later in the evening the glorious sounds of children's voices filled the air with the St. Augustine School Choir rich with harmonies and voices as true as their jingling bells on the warm clear evening. The choir sang modern pieces along with familiar favorites. The opener was a beautiful rendition of “I Wish for Peace” followed by “Christmas Is a Time to Love.” The large following in the street sang along to “Jingle Bells” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

The entertainment concluded with the A-List dancers performing a number that used the four corners of the Main Street and 6th Avenue intersection as an impromptu stage. The high energy dance performance heightened the festivities of the evening.

Shoppers stopped by the Humboldt Gallery for hot chocolate and a visit to check out the Festival of Wreaths. Once again hats off to the Humboldt downtown bid and the museum and Gallery for another great evening of entertainment to celebrate the start of the holiday season.
