Young athletes are attending a softball pitching clinic in the hopes of brushing up on existing skills or learning at a beginner level.

HCI hosted the first of five weekly hour-long clinics Sunday, and twenty youths are registered for the program.

Instructors from Softball Saskatchewan, Brandi-Rae Hanson, and Kailey Strouts are running the clinics and bring a wealth of skill and experience to their students. Hanson, who has been running the clinic for five years, says the improvement she sees from the first clinic to its final installment is "huge".

"It's trying to get them some experience and develop some of their skills so they can move forward and we can keep the game of fastball growing in the province," says Hanson.

She says she will often see a remarkable change in her athletes over the course of the program. It builds confidence and allows the athletes to improve their skills at a significant rate.

"We use backward chaining which is starting at the end of the pitch and moving backward. It allows us to be able to critique and fix technique in a better manner when we start with the end of the pitch and go backward," Hanson explains.
