This year marks the 20th year of operations for Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) as an export and market development organization.

During the last two decades, Saskatchewan has seen strong growth in international trade, with exports jumping to $32.8 billion in 2015 - while agriculture remains a key sector, exporting over $13 billion.

"The last year [2014], was the record year. Of course, that's when oil was above $40 a a barrel," said Chris Dekker is the President and CEO of STEP . He says 2015 was Saskatchewan's second best year and says nearly every other exporting sector went up.

He adds the agriculture sector consistently performs very well.

"In 2015, at out $32.8 billion total, a good portion of that was as a result of our agriculture, agri-value, food processing and food ingredients - which really speaks to our strategy to add value to our agricultural product. It still is one of the key sectors and key propulsive sectors of our economy, and it did us very well in 2015," Dekker said.

STEP boasts over 400 member companies. The 20th Anniversary year will culminate in the Annual General Meeting and Trade Conference October 18th and 19th in Regina.
