A dynasty has been long cemented in the Provincial Boys Softball Championships.

For the sixth time in seven years, the Rosebud Junior Royals (formerly the Wadena Wildcats) have captured the provincial boy's softball title.

The tournament, held in Wadena over the past weekend, featured Saskatchewan’s three “A” teams, from Wadena and area, Saskatoon, and Shellbrook.

The Junior Royals won both round-robin games on Saturday by scores of 8-0 and 10-5, giving them a bye to the Final. In the final, the boys faced the Saskatoon Selects. On the offensive side of the ball, Luke Scutchings went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. On defence, two outstanding plays by right fielder Karter Hamel and an outfield assist at home by centerfielder Griffen Helberg stymied any chance of Saskatoon getting on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, Koby Faubert pitched a complete game, 3-hit shutout, as the Royals would take the Final 4-0.

Next up for the Juniors is the Rosebud Royal tourney on July 14, followed by the Leslie Beach men’s tourney. Those two tournaments will prove to be as tune-ups for the Canadian Championships in Saskatoon from July 30-August 4. The Royals open up play against Newfoundland on July 31 at 9:00 AM. Many of the players will then head to Swift Current on August 8th to represent Saskatchewan in the Western Canada Summer Games.
