Ever wonder why you like your favourite song so much?

Partly, that's because the human brain is wired to love both new things and things it already knows - and both traits are baked into modern pop music.

But why do humans even enjoy music in the first place?

Researchers at MIT have started to understand the answer, as they've discovered a section of the brain that responds specifically to music, according to a news release from the school.

The brain is a complicated structure and the study only answered a very specific question. Still, it has opened the door to further research.

As a music lover, it's exciting that we may soon understand which parts of the brain are responsible for interpreting rhythm, melody and beat, or how musical experience of training could shape those neurons.
