After his wife passed away four years ago, Wilkie, Saskatchewan native, Jim Evans, took up the art and hobby of restoring classic cars to keep busy.
He purchased his rare 1955 Meteor Crown Victoria at that time. Evans told me that there were only 151 made originally, and only six remain in North America that he's found, and he's aware of one in both Australia and Sweden.
After restoring his pride and joy, he added a purchase that he had made for his daughter 12 years prior: a 1974 camper, which he upgraded and painted to coordinate with the Meteor.
Evans took the whole kit and caboodle to the Discovery Ford parking lot in Humboldt Saturday for the "Hot Cars in the City" show and BBQ. He says it's the farthest from home he's journeyed with his red Meteor and camper thus far, but plans on taking them a much greater distance soon.
A loyal participant in every classic car show within a hundred-mile radius of his Wilkie home, Evans wants to venture further north.
"Next year, if my health holds together, I want to go to Dawson City, Yukon with this!"
Being the vintage-lover I am, that sounds like the perfect ride for a fantastic road trip to me.
