Humboldt RCMP in partnership with the Snowblasters Snowmobile Club would like to remind 4x4 trucks and All Terrain Vehicles to stay off the groomed snowmobile trails. The divots created by unauthorized vehicles can be hazardous to the snowmobilers and damages the trails groomed and maintained by the snowmobile club.

The reminder comes following complaints registered with the Humboldt RCMP regarding trucks and wheeled ATVs causing damage to the groomed trails.

Staff Sergeant Alen Presler talks about the situation.

“We wanted to inform the public that it is a violation of the Snowmobile Act and that there are potential consequences as a result of these damages being done.”

The main concern is for the safety of snowmobilers expecting smooth trails.

“With the ruts on the groomed trails, it creates instability on the trails that could cause potential accidents. The trails are groomed for the purpose of clean riding, and when the operator isn’t anticipating obstructions and objects in front of them, then they are of course subject to harming themselves. It’s the safety we’re really concerned about,” explains Presler. Unauthorized vehicles including All Terrain Vehicles who are seen on the Snowmobile Trails may be issued a fine of $175 pursuant to section 20.01(1) of the Snowmobile Act.

Humboldt RCMP would also like to remind snowmobile drivers that when snowmobiling they are on a motor vehicle and that the same impaired driving laws apply to snowmobiles as they do to automobiles. They remind drivers to stay sober, keep themselves and others safe on the trails, and to enjoy the snow.
