On September 15, 2021 at approximately 3 a.m., Meadow Lake and Loon Lake RCMP were dispatched to a reported abduction. An adult female victim reported she had been abducted at gunpoint from the Centre St. area in Meadow Lake at approximately 1:15 a.m. She was later dropped off in a rural area near Barthel, SK and called police. She was robbed but not hurt.

The woman reported to police that there was a second female victim.

Meadow Lake RCMP, with the assistance of other RCMP units, began a search for the woman, as well as the two suspects and the two cars they were reported to be driving, both of which were determined to be stolen.

Later on September 15, 2021 Grande Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a report of a woman advising she had escaped from abductors within the city of Grande Prairie. Investigation determined the woman was the second female abduction victim. She had non-life-threatening injuries.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford Provincial General Investigation Section took carriage of the investigation. In partnership with the Grande Prairie General Investigation Section, officers arrested both woman in Grand Prairie on September 16.

Lana Aubichon (DOB: 1984-10-26) and Janelle Chatelaine (DOB: 1993-05-17) both of Meadow Lake, SK are each charged with:

- 2 counts, use a firearm in a kidnapping, Section 279(1.1)(a.1)(a), Criminal Code

- 2 counts, use a firearm during a robbery, Section 344(1)(a.1), Criminal Code

- 1 count, utter threats, Section 264.1(1), Criminal Code

- 1 count, possession of weapon while prohibited, Section 109(1), Criminal Code

Aubichon was also arrested for breaching a conditional sentence order.

Both Aubichon and Chatelaine will make their first court appearance in Meadow Lake on September 23, 2021.
