Premier Scott Moe took to social media on January 21, 2022, to provide an update on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic to Saskatchewan residents.

No new changes were brought to the light, with Premier Scott Moe citing, “We are seeing in some countries, as well as some provinces across Canada, starting to discuss the removal of their remaining measures that they have in place. They are also going to start talking about how they are going to live with COVID as we move forward through the next number of weeks and months, and ultimately eternity, and how we are going to get our lives back to some resemblance of normal.”

Moe stated the province isn’t in a state where removing the measures is feasible, stating, “We are not quite at that point yet here in Saskatchewan, but we could be in the near future.”

Premier Moe defended his decision, stating, “Omicron is spreading across Canada and spreading around the world regardless of the public health measures that are in place. Which is why we have chosen to avoid increasing those public health measures and increasing the policies surrounding lockdowns here in Saskatchewan.”

Moe stated he did not want to implement any lockdowns due to economical harm, and infringements on personal freedoms.

“COVID is not going away, it’s going to remain an ongoing concern for all of us, but we live with other diseases in our communities and in our province that are also ongoing. We do this without locking down, without taking away people's freedoms, and without disrupting everyone's life.”

During the update, Moe recommended those who have not done so get vaccinated. He also recommended receiving a booster shot for those who are eligible.

Moe advised picking up a box of rapid test kits and self-test from time to time. Rapid test kits are available at various outlets in communities throughout the province. Unfortunately, the test kits are in high demand and supply is limited. Some outlets in Humboldt are awaiting restocking.
