Part of this summer's paving program will include residences and a business along 9th Avenue on Humboldt's west side.

The 2100 block of 9th Avenue had development approved in the mid-1990s which included serviced residential lots. The south side was subsequently developed for commercial use in 2017-18. At the time, the stretch of road was not paved as lot pricing at the time did not include paved frontage. As property owner's expressed interest in seeing their street paved, the city moved forward in its planning to seek approval from the Saskatchewan Municipal Board for approval

The City of Humboldt will absorb the cost of ensuring the roadbed meets appropriate standards for paving while the assessed owners along the roadway will pick up the majority of the project's costs. Peter Bergquist, Public Works Director, explains, "The plan is to make 9th Avenue a thicker structure along the 2100 block for the local improvement in case there is any type of heavy truck traffic or turning traffic that could damage the road. We want to make a bit thicker to ensure that doesn't occur."

There are no plans at this time to see the road extend any further to the west as a thoroughfare to potential future development. An increased traffic load was anticipated due to the development of a dental office on the street's south side.

Cost of the entire project is expected to be $47,767. 32.
