A couple of weeks ago, the Mohawks football season wrapped up with a 26-14 loss to Kindersley in the Provincial Semi-Final. It was an emotional day for me. I'm going to reflect on my time with the Mohawks.

The reason why I played football is because I couldn't skate so I couldn't play hockey. I thought if I couldn't play with Humboldt's #1 most popular team which is the Broncos I could play with Humboldt's #2 most popular team which was Mohawk football.

I remember coming into the program in Grade 9 and not knowing what to expect. In Grade 9 you don't get to play as you're learning how to play tackle football for the first time. In Grade 9 we didn't do that well in the regular season going 2-4 and just barely making the playoffs. I went up to Foam Lake to watch the boys play in the Provincial Quarter-Finals and that was one of the best games ever. We were down by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter with two minutes left and we scored three touchdowns to win. That was probably my favourite game. We eventually made it to the Provincial Finals where we lost 19-11 to Clavet. I would never get back to the Provincial Final again.

Going into Grade 10 I was excited because we got to dress for senior games. I came into the game during a blowout against Nipawin in our first game of the year and helped make a tackle. I still didn't see the field much that year. However, as far as the team goes we went undefeated in the regular season and we won our division. We eventually lost to Warman in the Provincial Semi-Finals on our home turf. That was disappointing as we all thought we were going to win the Provincial Title that year.

In Grade 11, we had a pretty good team. As for myself, I didn't see the field that much. I wasn't a very good football player. Anyways, our team played pretty well going 4-2 in the regular season and finishing second in our division and making the playoffs yet again. We met up with Warman in the Provincial Quarter-Finals where we lost to them. This time the game was in Warman so we couldn't reverse the fortunes they put on us the year before.

Even though I didn't play much I stayed with the program cause I liked the atmosphere around the team which was we were all brothers and that we stick up for one another. Which is the true feeling that any sports team should have.

Heading into my Grade 12 year I was excited because I got to be a leader as we only had four Grade 12's on the roster and I would get to see the field a whole lot.... and then everything comes crashing down. In March I was in the Fitness Room doing a typical warmup for my daily offseason workout when I felt something go "Pop" in my knee and I'm on the ground in pain. I was able to go walk over to the ice machine and get ice and I iced it down all night. The next morning I missed school because I couldn't move. Eventually, as the offseason wore on I was able to walk on my knee but I couldn't run or jump which ends my season. So with playing not an option it looks as if my time with the Mohawks might end earlier than I expected. But then the team brings me in as Equipment Manager and I get to stay with the team. We start the regular season 0-2 but we finish the season 3-3. We make it all the way to the Semis where we lose to Kindersley. I had tears running down my face as I knew my time with the Mohawks is over.

It was a great four years and I had a lot of good and bad moments. But now my focus is on Graduation and looking into next year. But I will always come back to games whenever I'm back in town in the future.
