Humboldt Collegiate Institute had some visitors from south of the border on Wednesday.

Patrick Anderson and Anna Paddock are from Brooklyn, New York. HCI hosted the couple for a wheelchair basketball clinic in the afternoon and a concert in the evening.

Anderson grew up in Eastern Canada as a child. At the age of 9, Anderson would lose his legs in a car accident with a drunk driver. As for Paddock, she is originally from Southern Manitoba and moved around while growing up.

The two Canadians met in Vancouver, BC, but hit it off in Saskatchewan at a friend's wedding. Paddock would eventually move to Brooklynn, New York for Grad School. Anderson would move to New York with her, where they would have two kids.

"It was sorta through sports and music and here we are still plugging away at both those things," Anderson said.

They are known as The Lay Awakes in the music industry and Anderson runs his wheelchair basketball clinics throughout their Western Canadian tour.
