Seven-year-old Sarah Jackson, the Saskatchewan child who was the subject of a lengthy country-wide search, has been found safe in British Columbia and her father Michael Gordon Jackson is now in custody.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant had been issued for Michael, 52, for abduction in contravention of a custody or parenting order. The girl from Carievale had been missing since Nov. 21 after she was taken by her father.

“At this time no additional persons have been charged in relation to this incident,” said Sgt. Maj. Darryl Milo. “Investigators still continue to go over the evidence, and if such time that changes, we will certainly advise.”

RCMP says Sarah and Michael were found outside of a business in a vehicle in Vernon, BC. Michael is in custody in Vernon and will be transferred back to Saskatchewan to face charges. Sarah will be reunited with her mother, Mariecar Jackson, later on Thursday.

Sarah’s mother posted a video on the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Facebook page recently pleading for her safe return and the Moose Jaw Police Service even posted a missing child alert on its social media platforms.

While Milo couldn’t speak to the emotions that Mariecar must be going through, he did recall the emotions when RCMP officers learned that she had been found safe.

“The emotions that I saw from the general investigation and investigators, the emotions that I saw from our communications people. There were tears. There was relief,” Milo said.

The RCMP is still investigating the circumstances around the abduction.
