Snowfalls are one of the best parts of winter during childhood.

Snow forts, snowmen, and snowball fights are all higlights for anyone who grew up with a fair snowfall. Wherever there is snow, and a large quantity of it, kids are bound to try to use it to stay entertained and active throughout the cold months of the year.

Around Humboldt, in numerous parking lots, snow removal isn't always instant. In some cases, it is pushed into a large pile off to the side, and will be picked up at a later date. These "makeshift-mountains" for kids are like a whole new frozen world. Everytime a new one would pop up, it seemed like kids would flock to them, with sleds and crazy-carpets in hand, and would truely have some enjoyment amongst the dipping temperatures.

Now while this is good fun for kids, it does pose some risk at the same time. Parking lots are unsupervised, and traffic and children are never a good combination. With this in mind, kids and motorists alike should all be aware of each other when entering and exiting a parking lot this winter season.

Kids will follow snow wherever it falls, and sometimes that means where traffic and other cautious situation can occurr. Motorists should be on extra alert and children should always remember to play safe, especially in these winter months.
