Lesley Margaret Nordick
January 17, 1946 – January 20, 2023

It is with profound sadness that the family of Lesley Margaret (nee Edwards) Nordick of Humboldt, SK, announces her death at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on Friday, January 20, 2023, just three days after her 77th birthday. Lesley was born on January 17, 1946, in Liverpool, England. Her father, Tommy Edwards, immigrated to Canada, landed in Halifax, and took the train to Saskatoon, SK. Several months later, Lesley and her mother, Amy (nee Jones) Edwards, joined Tommy. The family settled in Rosetown, SK, where some of Amy’s relatives were living. Lesley graduated from Rosetown Composite High School and became a teacher. She married Mel Nordick of Englefeld in 1974, in Rosetown. Their union was blessed with two children, Jason “Jay” and Janelle. Their families expanded to include grandchildren, which was the most rewarding thing for Lesley and Mel, who loved every minute they could be with them. Lesley taught school for over 30 years, retiring in 2002. Near the beginning of her career, she had the opportunity to teach on Baffin Island, NWT, and in the western part of the Arctic. Retirement afforded more time for Lesley to indulge in her passion for quilting and, particularly, spending more time with her many friends to whom she was very devoted. Over the years, she was also active on several boards. Just a few years ago, Lesley was thrilled to learn she had a half-brother in Bristol, England. She so enjoyed keeping in touch through skype, email, phone calls and, especially, a few visits when Paul and his family came to Canada. During the last 12 years, Lesley bravely dealt with several serious health issues, but remained positive and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her sparkling personality and quick wit will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Lesley will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Mel Nordick; two children and four grandchildren: Jason “Jay” Nordick and children, Logan and Shaya; and Janelle (Trent) Kurbis and children, Elizabeth “Lizzy” and Will; her half-brother, Paul (Christine) McCafferty and their daughter Laura; and by numerous friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Amy (nee Jones) Edwards (1980), and Tom Edwards (1993). The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: Shaya Nordick and Lizzy Kurbis, crossbearers; Daryl Nordick and Carol Nordick, scripture readers; Daryl Nordick, intentions; Jay Nordick and Logan Nordick, giftbearers; Rosemarie Buttinger and Irene Szautner, memorial table attendants; and Mel Nordick, urnbearer. Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, pianist Erika Rybinski, and members of the St. Augustine Parish Choir. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation – General Equipment Fund (PO Box 1740, Humboldt, SK, S0K 2A0).
