The labour market in Humboldt has seen challenges recently with employers looking for candidates. With additional demands brought to the area by new projects and expansions, employers remain on the lookout for qualified and eager personnel.

That’s the motive behind an upcoming job fair on May 11. The event will be taking place at St. Peters College Gymnasium from 2:00 -8:00 pm. The fair is a partnership between the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce and BHP who will have a strong presence at the event, says Chamber Director Brent Fitzpatrick.

“I’m quite excited to see all the businesses who are going to come out. BHP through their vendors have got about half the available booths. We’re inviting local businesses who are in the same kind of predicament with workers to come out.”

Attendees to the fair will be introduced to the many regional employers seeking workers. Fitzpatrick says the outreach for those job seekers has gone well beyond Humboldt’s boundaries and into outlying areas.

“Our marketing is going out 200 kilometres because we need to bring people to the whole area. We are advertising locally, but the cognitive effort is to have people come to town and help our economy grow.”

Fitzpatrick recommends that patrons bring their resumes out and engage with the employers who are actively recruiting workers.

This event is the first of two that BHP and their contractors will be participating in with the second at the Muskowekwan First Nation Bingo Hall the next day, May 12 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

For those looking for employment, the Regional Job Fair will offer a myriad of opportunities. Those seeking more information can contact the Chamber office at 306-682-4990.
