Janina (née Kut) Humenny
June 24, 1933 – November 24, 2022

On Thursday, November 24, 2022, Janina (née Kut) Humenny passed away at her residence in Stensrud Lodge, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She was 89 years of age. Born in Poland in 1933, Janina was the only member of her family to immigrate to Canada. While her parents and siblings remained in Poland, Janina began a new life on the prairies. Settling in Saskatchewan, she met her future husband Harry Humenny and they were married on March 9, 1962 in Canora, SK. Together they worked on their mixed farm in the Wimmer district where they raised their family of five children: Irene, John, Terry, Larry and Clarence. Along with the work of farming, Janina enjoyed her garden and growing flowers. As pets, her goldfish and birds were pleasant additions to her home. Entering their retirement years in the late 1980’s, Janina and Harry moved from the farm in August of 1995, to live in Saskatoon. After Harry’s passing in 1998, Janina continued to live in the city, making Stensrud Lodge her home until her passing. She will be sadly missed by her five children, six grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Irene of Saskatoon, SK; John (Joanne) and family, Tanya, Sonya, Roxanne, and Jake, of Calgary, AB; Terry of Calgary; Larry (Tanya) and family, Landon, and Kayla of Saskatoon; and Clarence of Saskatoon; and her nieces and nephews. Janina was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Harry Gregory Humenny; her parents Michak and Aniela (née Korbecka) Kut; her parents-in-law Michael and Annie (née Slewinski) Humenny; and by various relatives from the Kut and Humenny families. The Funeral Service was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK, on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Fr. Colin Roy. The interment followed at St. George’s Greek Catholic Cemetery in Watson, SK. The pallbearers were Janina’s grandchildren, Tanya, Roxanne, Landon, Sonya, Jake, and Kayla. Memorial donations may be directed to St. George Greek Catholic Cemetery in Watson, SK.
