Environmental and Social Justice Activist Elaine Hughes lives on a farm near Archerwill and is hoping for a seat in Ottawa.

Hughes is the Green Party hopeful in the Yorkton-Melville riding, and has been a candidate provincially and federally in the past.

She explained what she is focused on this time around.

"Whether we like it or not we're going to have to transition off of fossil fuels and leave it in the ground. Let's get with the program, do it the easy way and start early or wait and then be caught in a panic. Globally Canada is a disgrace in so many areas."

Hughes is also focused on housing costs for seniors, drug and dental plans and poverty levels.

She wants to make an impact if she is elected on October 19th.

"We have a comprehensive platform covering making poverty and homelessness history and dealing with climate change and dealing with economics and emanating tuition for university students."

Hughes spent five years as a member of the Royal Canadian Navy, holding a wide array administrative positions in the medical, legal, education and government fields in Canada and as a volunteer overseas.

Aside from being a long serving board member of the Saskatchewan Environmental Society, she is also a member of the National Farmers Union and the Food For All Coalition.
