The Annaheim Community Hall will be rocking with laughter this Friday night as the comedy duo “Don’t Mind Us” hits the stage. The event comes complete with a supper and is a fundraiser for the hall.

Sherry Vedress, one of the organizers of the show, explains that the comedy night was an instant choice in lieu of the community’s usual local dinner theatre. The one night show will see it’s proceeds head into the hall and to meet other needs.

“The funds go for our community facilities like the hall and the arena for general upkeep and utilities,” explains Vedress. As with other communities, the inability for people to gather over the last couple years means it’s been tough for facilities to generate the kinds of revenue needed to keep the doors open.

As a pre-Christmas event, the community is looking forward to the madcap lunacy of “Don’t Mind Us." The duo of Lee Bells and Mark Schweighardt has been honing the improv comedy chops for a long time, delighting audiences and consistently dragging audience members into the hilarious mix.

“We’ve been doing this for over thirty years, so we almost know what we’re doing,” quips Bells. “What we do is ask for suggestions from the audience from the audience, words and phrases and suggestions, and we create the scenes in the show on the spot based on what the audience suggests. It’s funny and scary at the same time.”

Schweighardt and Bells both originally hail from Humboldt, so there’s always plenty of local colour underlying the improv scenes. The effect is a spontaneous skit where the audience recognizes themselves and their foibles, always with side splitting results.

Door for the event on December 2 open at 6:00 pm with Happy Hour, followed by the supper at 7:00 and the show at 8:00. Tickets are available from the Annaheim Credit Union or by calling Sherry Vedress at (306) 231-8634 or Donna Doepker at (306) 231-4261. Advance tickets are $35; at the door, they’re $40.

It’s another great evening of entertainment, all in aid of recreational facilities in Annaheim. The winter wind won’t be all that’s howling on Friday night.
