It was a successful weekend for badminton players from the Horizon Central Athletic Association.

Three teams or individuals claimed regional championships and one more finished in second - all advancing to the provincial championships.

In Boys Singles, it was a re-match of the HCAA District, as Wadena's Darian Sunshine took on Cael Zimmerman of Englefeld.

Sunshine won the match 2-0 to win the regional. Both players advanced to provincials.

Seth Schuler and Simon Ford of Humboldt Collegiate Institute qualified as winners of the Boys Doubles regional.

They knocked off Middle Lake 2-0 in the semi-final before defeating Nipawin 2-1 to take the win. Nipawin had won the round robin meeting between the two teams.

Ford will be appearing at provincials for the second straight year. Last year, he teamed up with Erik Gardiner to reach the provincial stage.

In Mixed Doubles, an Annaheim duo is heading back to provincials. Jeremy Junk and Brooke Johnson went unbeaten to win their regional.

They defeated Englefeld 2-0 in the semi-final before knocking off Perdue 2-0 in the final.

Last year, the Rebels had Remington Rohel and Ashley Blechinger appear in provincials where they won bronze.

Another area team advanced in Girls Doubles. Naicam's Karly Dawson and Jenelle Sunderland finished second in their regional to secure a provincial spot.

Provincials are being held on May 13.
