Summer construction is underway in and around Humboldt, with crews starting work on Highways 5 and 20 very shortly.

The joint project between the City of Humboldt and the Ministry of Highways is expected to take around one month to complete, explained the City.

“There are multiple crews, a paving crew west of Humboldt, and a zone on Highway 5, on the west edge of the city, then they will move east from there. They typically do a couple of blocks at a time, focusing on one stretch, closing off side streets just to reduce traffic movement,” explained Daniel Bernhard, City Engineer.

Highways will still be functional while construction is taking place; lanes will be reduced to one-way traffic.

“There will also be a third crew on Highway 20, that will be a full rebuild, so they will be there for several weeks. They will maintain access to all the businesses.”

The City of Humboldt wants to remind drivers to be cautious around work zones, to slow down and obey the signs.
