Saskatchewan Multicultural Week is here and the Humboldt Regional Newcomers Centre wants to learn more about individuals and their families in the local area by creating a mosaic.

To celebrate Multicultural Week 2020, the Humboldt Regional Newcomers Centre (HRNC) in partnership with the Prairie Central District will be supplying wooded tiles throughout the community to interested participants. These participating artists are then asked to express who they are as individuals with their own creation on the tiles. In turn, they'll be assembled into a map of our province and displayed at the HRNC.

"We're trying to look at things through a different lens. One of these things is, let's look at multiculturalism while also being intracultural and work together while we're all separated," said Executive Director of the HNRC, Janine Hart.

The tiles are currently being sent to the HNRC and are 4"x4". The hopes are to have 100 of them passed out and painted to create a large community-built mosaic.

"On the tile, they can paint a representation of themselves or their family and surround it with things they enjoy. When they are finished, they can send it back and we are going to have all of the tiles mounted in the shape of Saskatchewan."

Anyone in the area who is interested in reaching out and creating their own tile is more than welcome to contact the HNRC and request their tile.

"That's how we're working right now. We're fortunate that we work with, and predominantly for, refugee and immigrant newcomers, but right now with the pandemic, we're reaching out to everyone. We want to do this together because we're all part of the same province."

Individuals can get ahold of the HNRC at 306-682-4277 and request their tile. The tiles will be distributed in a social distanced fashion, and can also be mailed if need be.

The tiles will be delivered to the HNRC around December 1st, where they will then be distributed throughout the area.
