It has been quite the Summer for Humboldt Collegiate Institute grade 11 student Tayden Wallin.

Appearances at the Western Canada Summer Games in Fort McMurray where he placed 10th, he also claimed a fourth overall finish in the juvenile division at the Saskatchewan Junior Championships.

He also went to Quebec for the National Junior Boys Championship where he missed the cut but learned plenty on the Canadian stage.

Along with that list of accomplishments you can add a Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association grass green championship to the 16 year-old's already impressive resume.

After the national tournament he won the Saskatchewan Junior Order of Merit in Saskatoon plus he was the first flight winner at the Junior Lobstick at Waskesiu.

He knew going into the high school tournament he was at the top of his game.

"I was playing good golf since districts, I played pretty good at districts and I was feeling pretty confident about my game going into provincials. I thought I had a chance to win it."

After the first day of the two day event at Deer Park in Yorkton he was a shot back of Kipling's Carson Harcourt but he evened the score at 146 after 36 holes forcing a one hole play-off which he won by sinking a par and Harcourt carded a bogey. He said being a shot back may have made it easier.

"Sometimes it's easier to play from behind, you can just focus on your game. You don't really have to worry about anyone chasing you, you can just try to put a good score out there and see what the other guy ahead of you does."

"This is just a nice way to end it off really," he continued. "Probably top two things I am most proud of that I did this Summer, feels good to get a provincial win."

Not only does he win the gold medal, he helped the HCI team win the bronze medal in the team category. Spencer Hill came in 20th with a 171, Chase Unger put up a 178 and Carson Horachek was 47th shooting 191.

"They played some really god golf too," Wallin added of his three teammates. "I couldn't have done it without them."

You can hear more from Wallin below in his interview with Bolt FM's Clark Stork below.

Wallin wasn't the only Horizon School Division student to claim a gold medal this past weekend. In Punnichy, Raymore's Dillon Poorman won the sand green championship with a two round total of 139. Strasbourg's Bryce Hubick came in second with a 153.
