Hey People!

Avery LeBlanc here to give you some insight on how stressful harvest season can be.

I grew up on a farm just north of Wakaw, Saskatchewan and I know how hard farming can be. Some people think farming is the easiest job out there, but really it's one the hardest professions, which is the reason I talk for a living rather than taking over the family farm.

This year's harvest season has got to be one the worst years I can think of. Why is that you may ask?

First of all, it snowed throughout most of the weekend which is unheard of this time of year. If you told me it was going to snow on September 21st, I would have called you crazy.

Secondly, Mother Nature has been pounding us with cold, wet weather in general for more than 2 weeks. In order to get into the field with the combine it needs to be dry, and let me tell you, it is anything but dry. If farmers started to combine today, it could cause damage to the combine. Last I check, farm equipment parts aren't the cheapest either. Plus the crops that are sitting in the field could freeze to death before the combine is able to get back into the field.

Last but not least, even if it drys up enough to get the crop off, grain needs be dry before being put in the bin. It takes time and money to get grain dried as well.

So whatever you do! don't ever call the farmers lazy for not being out in the field right now. If the crops don't get off before the snow comes (again), it will result in lost revenue and make next farming season that much harder.

Mother Nature will come around farmers, don't worry. We truly appreciate what you do!
