According to Carlton Trail College on March 27, 2023, the College in Humboldt, Saskatchewan was pleased to receive a capital funding allocation of $800,000 to expand its regional trades training facility following the release of the Government of Saskatchewan’s 2023-24 Budget.

Amy Yeager, Carlton Trail College President & CEO, said, “We’re appreciative the Government of Saskatchewan recognizes the need for enhancing trades training opportunities within our region. This facility expansion will help us continue to deliver high-quality, skills-based and industry training programs that support our economy.”

According to Carlton Trail College, the facility is the College’s primary trades training building. It provides classroom and shop space to both Carlton Trail College students and Horizon School Division secondary students as part of a unique, working agreement between the institutions. Along with being vital to the delivery of skilled trades programs such as welding, electrician, industrial mechanics (millwright) and others, it also exposes high-school youth to early schooling in the trades.

Recent investments into key regional sectors, such as mining, agriculture and construction, indicate that there is a strong need to engage individuals in the trades, as reported by Carlton Trail College.

The College release indicates additional shop and classroom space will increase facility usage, furthering the College’s ability to develop skilled and job-ready workers. There is also the potential for regional organizations to access the enhanced space for their own training opportunities.

According to Carlton Trail College, expansion plans will be finalized over the coming weeks, with a project start anticipated mid-year.
