On Saturday, July 18, 2020, Wadena conservation officers received a call regarding a bull elk lying dead in a field south-west of Kelvington.

The elk was located approximately 4 miles east of Highway #35 and 1.5 miles south of Highway #49, at land location NW 30-36-12 W2.

The investigation determined that the elk had been shot with a small-caliber rifle, between 9 am and 11 am on July 18, and left to waste. There was no elk season on during this time.
