I was covering the trade show at St. Mary's Villa on Thursday afternoon when a woman looked at my hand, and asked, what's with the red thumb?

The answer: I happened to be around this morning when Shari Hinz came into the Bolt FM office armed with bright red nail polish and mission to promote National Teen Driver Safety Week, which starts Saturday.

Four announcers here had our thumbs painted as a reminder not to text and drive.

"It's a really good, simple visual reminder to help people to remember to put their phones away," Hinz said.

The event is run by Parachute Canada. This year's focus is on drugged, distracted, impaired and aggressive driving.
