Darlene Joyce (née Eichorst) Rucks
February 8, 1941 – October 21, 2022

Darlene was born February 8, 1941, to Albert and Jean (née Ewen) Eichorst. They lived in the Haliburton District, later moving to Lockwood, SK. She attended Haliburton School for Grade 1 and graduated with Lockwood’s last Grade 12 Class in 1959. After working as a Dental Assistant in Swift Current, SK, for one year, Darlene married her long-time sweetheart, Mervin Rucks, from Esk, SK, on July 23, 1960. Darlene enjoyed working alongside Merv on the Rucks family farm raising a few pigs, chickens, geese, and beef, as well as helping in the field. Every summer she grew a large garden and was blessed with many vegetables, fruits, and an abundance of beautiful flowers. They became parents to Dean in 1965, and Lisa in 1968. Many winters were spent in the Jansen Arena for hockey and figure skating, and summers included ball games and fishing trips with family. Her family grown, Darlene enjoyed working part-time at Carousel Fashions in Lanigan, SK. Other pastimes were curling, playing golf and later, bowling. She and her family were faithful members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Jansen, SK, and Darlene was a Kinette for a few years, appreciating the fellowship of both organizations. Darlene and Mervin were blessed to be able to travel to Mexico, Yukon, Florida, Texas, The Bahamas, Eastern Canada, Churchill, Alaska, and as well beautiful British Columbia. However, out of all these places, their favorite destination was their “Home Away from Home” in Mesa, Arizona. It was here they were able to spend nine snow-free winters together. Blessed with grandchildren, she not only had fun taking them to swimming lessons, but also took the time to teach them about the farm. Her time spent with friends playing cards and crokinole and dancing at Manitou Beach were highlights for Darlene and she never missed a chance to take part in Jansen events and to volunteer when needed. Darlene was predeceased by her loving husband Mervin; son Dean; parents Albert and Jean (nee Ewen) Eichorst; in-laws August and Lydia Rucks; sister and brother-in-law Erica and Henry Martynse; nieces Sandra Martynse and Heather Kline; nephew Robby Burns.
