In the midst of a frozen February, grades one and two students at Cudworth School, with the help of their teacher, launched a mid-school year celebration. Students at Cudworth School marked the 100 Days of School with an all-out festival of numbers and math skills.

Cudworth School teacher, Shelene Hoffman, explains that students have been working on counting and managing numbers through various lessons and activities during the school year. Those efforts culminated in the 100 Days of School event. Students have been adding straws one day at a time into their own collections and then managing those straws into groups of tens. As they patiently awaited the day when those groups would accumulate into a giant three digit cluster, Ms. Hoffman led the students in other counting and gathering activities. Some included stacking solo cups and creating with snap cubes. Finally, as the 100th day approached, students met Zero the Hero, a math supporting superhero, and worked on crowns that celebrated their being 100 days smarter.

The 100th day came with students bringing collections of 100 favourite items. Fan favourites included hockey cards and multicoloured lego blocks. Ms. Hoffman's class dressed as superheroes to celebrate heading into the last half of the school year. Here's hoping the next hundred days will be filled with learning and more math adventures.
