Humboldt U11 Baseball is hosting a four-team tournament this weekend at Bill Brecht Park this weekend. On Saturday, volunteers will be on hand with a huge barbecue and concession. The proceeds are heading to the progress on the Bill Brecht playground structures. It’s more than a ball concession – it’s a community celebration with funds heading to the completion of this worthy project.

“We’re selling burgers, hotdogs and everything throughout the whole day,” says Cathy Zimmerman with the Bill Brecht Park Committee. “We are promoting it as a community barbecue because we really want the community to come out and support it.”

The tournament takes place at the Bill Brecht Park Ball Diamond. Games go both Saturday and Sunday; the barbecue is on Saturday only from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Zimmerman is excited about the progress of phase one of park construction.

“In June, we are going to be “The Beehive” which is a huge climbing structure and a tunnel slide.”

The installation of that equipment will complete phase 1 and there’s more exciting news about phase 2 coming shortly, says Zimmerman.

Not only can you catch some great baseball with provincial U11 players, but there’s a great meal in store for a great cause this Saturday at Bill Brecht Park.
