On Wednesday, March 27th,  Kenton Flavel, Director with the Humboldt Strong Community Foundation, brought a generous donation from the Foundation to the City of Humboldt. The Foundation has been disbursing money gathered from the unprecedented fundraising campaign to various organizations during the past weeks. The city of Humboldt received $802,500.

Flavel stated that the Foundation put a great deal of time and thought into the disbursements and determining the amounts that each of the recipients would obtain. "It was a very difficult process. There was no magic formula; it was just trying to give back to communities who were there for our people when the event happened."

When it comes to how the money will be used by the recipients, Flavel had no specific expectations other than stating, "There are really no defined targets from the Community Foundation. The City has some expenses already that they have incurred for certain events. I believe that the one year anniversary might account for some of it. I'm not sure what the City might spend the money on but it will be with recognition to the event, the families, and the people that surrounded that."

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the City were Councillors Owen Hopfner, Sandy Weyland, and Lorne Pratchler. Councillor Pratchler expressed the City's thanks, "We really appreciate all that's been given to us as a city, not only in monetary terms but in the thoughts and prayers that have come towards us. It has allowed us to move forward. Every step of the way, there have been some closures. We've come to a point now where we can see a little more clearly, and the timing of the funds we have received today will allow us to use them properly in the community."

Pratchler confirmed that Council would deliberate over the exact targeting of the donation funds in the coming weeks.
