At the regular Humboldt City Council meeting on Monday, March 27, Mayor Michael Behiel issued two proclamations, one of which was to declare April 6, 2023 as 2017-2018 Humboldt Broncos Day.

A statement issued by the City of Humboldt notes that, in collaboration with representatives of the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos Families, it is preparing a hybrid tribute of videos and on-line content to honor the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos and all those impacted.

The Elgar Petersen Arena will be open to the public to come and go as they wish to pay their respects and reflect from 4:45 pm to 5:30 pm. During this time, a compilation of videos will be played on the Jumbotron for those who choose to attend. Simultaneously, some videos from the playlist will be published on the City’s Facebook Page at: www.facebook.com/CityofHumboldt/ and later published on the “2017-18 Humboldt Broncos Tribute Page” on the City of Humboldt’s web site at www.humboldt.ca/tribute. At around 4:50 pm, the approximate time that the tragedy occurred, the bells at St. Augustine Church will be tolled 29 times.

Mayor Behiel also encourages all citizens to observe a moment of silence at approximately 4:50 pm, no matter where they may be.

At the meeting, he also declared March 7 to be “Green Shirt Day.” It’s a day to honour the sacrifice of 2017-18 Bronco Logan Boulet and his parents commitment to honour Logan’s wishes to have his organs donated. The resulting “Logan Boulet Effect” saw over 100,000 Canadians sign up to be organ donors and saw six people’s lives directly impacted by Logan’s Generosity. It’s a day to wear green in promotion of organ donation, and to celebrate a life and spirit that has made a profound impact. More information on Green Shirt Day can be found at www.greenshirtday.ca.
