Humboldt could see two new cannabis stores open up following City Council’s decision, on Monday, July 25, to approve a pair of discretionary use applications.

Council approved the application of Melfort Cannabis Corporate to operate a cannabis retail store under the name Saskabuds Cannabis at 607 9th Street in the downtown area. It also approved a separate application for a store at 2416 Westwood Drive submitted by Synergy Five Investments. That location will operate under the name 5Buds Cannabis.

The two separate applications were voted on and approved by City Council having met the licensing and permit applications required by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority and other regulatory bodies. Other criteria, including restricted distances from other cannabis retailers and public schools had also been met, noted City Manager Joe Day.

A call for a public hearing produced no communications of concern and no one present at the regular Monday Council Meeting spoke for or against either bid.

There was no timeline presented as to when the businesses might begin operation.
