Halloween is a few short weeks around the corner, and once again, the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Big Brothers Big Sisters Humboldt for a drive-thru Halloween event. It was a Halloween experiment last year that proved to be extremely popular, so Brent Fitzpatrick, Chamber Director, and the board and staff are bringing back the excitement.

“The Chamber last year realized that the kids are going to be challenged to get out there with all the restrictions,” explains Fitzpatrick, “So last year, on a four-day turnaround, managed to grab 6500 treats between people donating treats and cash. We purchased an awful lot of treats for the kids. That translated to about 275 bags that we gave away.”

There was no cost to receive a treat bag, but the silver collection at the site generated money for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Humboldt organization.

The call has now gone out to local businesses and individuals to contribute to this year’s edition. Those donations started rolling in almost the minute the message went out on Friday.

“I’m really looking forward to more and varied donations coming in. We’ve just heard from another company this morning. You don’t have to donate treats if you just want to throw us some money, we acknowledge you as a donor on our website and social media.”

The Chamber then spends that money at local Chamber member businesses to provide for the treat packages to be picked up on Halloween night.

“It’s literally a supporting circle which is a double win for us.”

To donate, drop off treats or cash donations at the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce office by the caboose on Highway 5. Pickups are also available by calling the office at (306) 682-4990.
