The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce with corporate sponsor BHP are hosting a Fall Job Fair and Staff Development Day on Saturday, October 22. The event takes place in Jubilee Hall at the Humboldt Uniplex. Last May, a job fair was held at St. Peter’s College to bring together employers and prospective employees in what has become a challenging labour market.

“In May we had a great job fair midweek that took place at St. Peter’s College in cooperation with our friends at BHP and Hatch,” says Chamber Director Brent Fitzpatrick. “It had a strong response, but I felt at that time we missed a segment of our population that couldn’t get away from work during the weekdays, so we decided a great time for another was in October.”

The job fair takes over the entirety of Jubilee Hall from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday with more booths signing on to the event each day. Fitzpatrick says that for people seeking employment or those looking to make a change in their work lives, the job fair is a perfect solution. The informal atmosphere will allow for prospective staff to chat with businesses and employers in a relaxed face to face environment.

As an added attraction, the Cultural Services Department with the City of Humboldt is holding a seasonal ornament decoration event for children during the job fair, compliments of Canadian Tire. Admission for job seekers is free to the job fair.

That evening, the Chamber is also hosting a supper presentation by Corliss Rassyle entitled “The Be To The Best You”.

“Corliss is a very energetic and fun speaker,” says Fitzpatrick. “I think business owners will find it to be a very fulfilling evening, and you’ll walk away with the tools to ‘be the best you’.”

The final Chamber sponsored barbecue of the season, the supper features chicken and ribs along with a special dessert that will only be known by those who attend. Tickets are available for $30 a seat, with a discount for a table of eight, and can be purchased from the Chamber office.

For employers who want to purchase a booth for the job fair, Fitzpatrick says to contact the Chamber office at (306) 682-4990 to make arrangements.
