Well as everyone in Humboldt likely has noticed the garbage and recycling bins are now here, for me, thank you!

When I first moved to the city in September of 2011, the trash pick-up program was nothing shy of confusing.

You mean I need to go to a local store and buy tags to get my weekly shopping bag of trash taken away? What kind of nonsense is that?!

I recall a public meeting at the Gathering Place when the first talk of the bins was starting to sprout, the city had just recently vetoed the back yard pick-up program which was originally in place as a make good for the silly tag and bag program so at that point you still had to head to Thrifty Mart or City Hall to get the yellow strips plus you had to deal with yard waste.

I asked the question, from a taxpayers stand point and not my job as a reporter, I said you guys are getting heat because of the cut and the tags, when will the bins be coming? Then Councillor Leon Fleischhacker explained they are coming and I was a happy home owner.

I know there are people that are still ticked off about the $15/month fee but for someone who doesn't make thousands of dollars and has a budget I say it's about time!

No more trips to the recycling centre, no more garbage stored up in my home or yard, no more random trips to dumpsters to dispose of trash becasue the tag store was closed or not convenient.

Kudos Humboldt, from a taxpayer thank you for getting with the times!

And as you can tell by the photo, even your kids will love to take out the trash, or perhaps their siblings!
